Posted 19/09/2007 02:53:24 PM | | On Thursday, September 27th, more than 100 volunteers from Home Depot will work side by side with local residents to build a playspace designed by our children. This playground has been the vision of Deborah Dickson, Cassandra Anderson, Pelton Stewart and the children of Vallejo for the past several years. With the help of KaBoom! and Home Depot, the dream is quickly becoming a reality.
This is an opportunity for all of us to invest in positive change. With a 1 day construction “blitz” planned, more than 250 volunteers will be coming together to make this all possible. Volunteers are still needed for build day and donations are being sought to ensure that Vallejo’s newest playground is built on schedule.
WHO: The Continentals of Omega Boys and Girls Club of Vallejo
WHAT: A Community Built Playground
HOW: With 250 volunteers and the unity of Solano County residents.
WHY: Our children need a safe, clean and fun place to play. Physical activity leads to stronger academic achievement, increased concentration, and improved math, reading and writing test scores. Play reduces the underlying emotional and psychological causes of criminal and anti-social behavior such as low self-esteem, lack of concern for the consequences of ones action, and poor empathetic abilities.
WHEN: Our first Volunteer meeting is September 6th. Build Day is September 27th.
WHERE: 1 Positive Place, Vallejo at the Continentals of Omega Boys and Girls Club facility.
Both the volunteer meeting and build will be held at the Boys and Girls Club facility.
CONTACT NAME AND NUMBER: Please contact Deborah Dickson or Cassandra Anderson, Project Managers at positiveplacepark@yahoo.com or at 707-644-5940 our 501 (c) (3) number is 23-7129424
